Thank you, and congratulations to the many Michigan activists who stood up to more big government largess in the form of the NITC.

Thanks to the activism and involvement of taxpayers across Michigan, Senate Bill 410 was defeated yesterday in the Senate Committee on Economic Development.

Voting Yes: Sen. Judy Emmons, R-Sheridan, Sen. Dave Hildenbrand, R-Lowell
Voting No: Sen. Mike Kowall, R-White Lake Township, Sen. Goeff Hansen, R-Hart, Sen. Mike Nofs, R-Battle Creek
Abstaining from the vote: Sen. Tupac Hunter, D-Detroit, Sen. Virgil Smith, D-Detroit

We strongly believe yesterday’s vote was a win for Michigan taxpayers. The risks and liabilities were too high and it was a bridge we can’t afford.  We’re sincerely grateful to Senators Kowall, Hansen, and Nofs for their courage to do the right thing for the taxpayers not only in their districts, but also taxpayers across Michigan and the other federal taxpayers who would have been helping to foot the bill for this ill-advised project.

For complete coverage of the two votes that occurred yesterday, including an earlier vote for an amended version of the bill that would have required the contractor provide “community benefits” for the City of Detroit that also failed, please read the front-page stories in the October 21st Detroit News and Detroit Free Press.

While we consider this a victory for today, we don’t believe we’ve seen the last of this issue. Please sign up here to continue receiving updates on this issue and issues vital to Michigan’s future prosperity. Thank you again!
